Virtuoso is a main fictional character and superhero in Joe Graham's Omni series. She is currently the Brain of 1st team at the Alpha Academy. Her first appearance is in ‘Omni – History Begins.’ Her secret identity is Jillianne ‘Jilly’ Isabella Zavaleta. Virtuoso is a Brazilian citizen and was raised by her parents outside of Sao Paulo, Brazil

Virtuoso’s parents are both super powered artists. It is unknown how many generations of superpowers run in her family. Her father was born in Spain and was a superhero for a short time during the Coalition's War. He is now a very successful writer. Virtuoso’s mother was never a superhero. Mrs. Zavaleta is a famous Brazilian painter and sculptor. Before her invitation to Alpha, Virtuoso never knew her of Father’s or Grandfather’s time

Virtuoso’s imagination and powers were nurtured from the time she was in her crib. Her mother would show her soothing illusions to calm her when she cried and her father would try to teach her to communicate telepathically. Virtuoso is a skilled almost anything she puts her mind to. Her ability to learn telepathically has allowed her to learn to paint, sculpt, draw, sing, play almost all musical instruments, and speak the language of every person she’s ever met. Before attending Alpha Virtuoso’s life was one of privilege, her rich parents provided well for her and schooling was easy.

At Alpha, Virtuoso was selected to be the brain for 1st team. Coach Connors recruited her specifically for his new team. At first, it seemed as though Shi might be more suited to be the brain of the team. After a time, Virtuoso’s powers helped her to step into the role as she kept copying information from other super smart heroes to herself.
Virtuoso has show little regard for the privacy of others and routinely eavesdrops on the thoughts of those around her. She’s also not shy about telling others that she was listening to them. Virtuoso has the tendency to test the authority of those around her and to test what she can get away with.
After finding her boundaries and settling into her role, Virtuoso has shown to be a great asset to her team. Her mental based powers and growing academic skills have helped her team in both combat and problem solving. She also took it upon herself to designed all the costumes for her teammates and a few Alphas on other teams.

Virtuoso is the brain of 1st team, the 4th team trained by coach Connors and the 10th class to be trained at Alpha Academy. As is with every team, she has five other teammates, each having their own positions. 1st team is organized as follows.

[edit] Appearance
Virtuoso is a 14 year old female of Brazilian and Spanish decent. She stands five feet, six inches tall and has an athletic build. Virtuoso has long dark hair and green eyes. Her beauty has been commented on by those around her as being ‘super good looking.’ Her fashion sense has trumped the others on the team, as she considers it an art form and is always well dressed.
[edit] Costume
Virtuoso’s costume is thinner and more form fitting than her teammates. The reactive nanomail covering her body is thin, yet protective with unique reflective characteristics. The costume looks and moves like a liquid mirror, with no color of its own. Her costume covers everything from the neck down, even to her finger tips.
On top of her costume Virtuoso wears a long flowing cloak, made of the same mirrored material as her costume, that covers her under costume and almost touches the ground. The cloak has a hood that can be pulled over and once touching the front of her costume, it will harden into a helmet. Under the cloak she carries equipment on a belt, which can be hard to see behind the cloak.
On Virtuoso’s face she wears a masquerade style mask. The mask is the same type of mirrored material her costume is made of. It adheres to her face and does not interfere with her vision.
Virtuoso has a utility belt with small pouches on it. On her thigh she carries one slim Ngun in a holster of the same finish as her costume.

Virtuoso’s physical abilities are far behind the rest of her team. She has demonstrated an overhead lift of 1000 pounds. Her speed is five times what a normal girl her age and conditioning should have. Virtuoso’s endurance and ability to take damage are her best physical traits, although they are still lagging behind most Alphas.
Telepathy is Virtuoso’s most commonly used power. She has stated before that people around her are just loud and she can’t help but hear them. Virtuoso can open a connection between herself and another so when one thinks ‘out loud,’ the other hears. Opening a ‘party line’ is when she opens a several connections and acts as a bridge so everyone connected can hear the conversation. Physical obstacles or range have not inhibited her telepathic powers.
Mind reading comes very naturally to her. It has been commented that she learns best this way. Virtuoso can quickly read and copy useful information to her own photographic memory. On more than once she has manipulated the memory of another by copying the memories or skills of one person to another. For this type of transference, she places her hands on the person’s head. Virtuoso has been told not to do this and that personality traits can be transferred to others. Her personality is firewalled from any influence from the people she reads.
Virtuoso has demonstrated the ability to control another person’s body by a type of mind control. This takes concentration and can hurt her ability to multitask. On one occasion she attacked another telepath in a ‘psi fight’ causing them to collapse in pain and bleed from the ears, nose, and eyes.
Virtuoso can teleport herself and others to any place she has been or can see in another’s mind. Her ability automatically compensates for momentum and orientation as she teleports. Those who teleport with her have to be touching her or someone she is touching, like holding hands in a circle. Virtuoso told the story of how she learned to teleport and change her momentum as a child; she would ride her bike at a wall and then teleport back to the same place with her momentum and orientation reverse so she would be riding away from the wall.
A wildly active imagination has helped fuel the use of her illusionary powers. Her illusions are not solid, but those who see them cannot tell without trying to touch them. The illusion extends to ever sense except touch. They are very detailed as her subconscious helps fill in the details of what she is projecting. Typically she will make the illusion that she is not there and become invisible.
Virtuoso is capable of reality manipulation on a very small scale. She has changed the shape and function of clothing and has created samples of rock out of nothing. Virtuoso considers this just making her smaller illusions real.
[edit] Combat Style
It took Virtuoso a while to find her place in combat. At first she was a third wheel in a game played with brute strength and blinding speed. She has since learned to take use her illusions as a hindrance to opponents, hide herself, confuse the enemy, and control at least one person from the other team. Virtuoso is often called on to teleport her teammates in combat and out of it.enough speed for him.
